Abstract

The aim of this research is to evaluate the total phenolic content, antibacterial activity and antioxidant activity of Tecoma stans. leaves were collected from the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Baghdad, and the ethanolic extract was prepared using a magnetic stirring. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, phenols, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and glycosides. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH assay, along with Total Phenolic Content (TPC) analysis. The extract exhibited strong antioxidant activity that increased with concentration. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis identified six major phenolic compounds: quercetin, gallic acid, caffeic acid, apigenin, ferulic acid, and rutin. The extract also demonstrated antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa at concentrations of 128 and 256 mg/ml, with inhibition zones ranging from (12.33 ± 0.42) mm to (21.67 ± 0.42) mm, respectively, indicating its potential as a promising natural antibacterial agent.
